Project Description

Excellent service, excellent cuisine, excellent beer and wine, excellent view of the port. I advice to ask for the fish of the catch day is 100% fresh and delicious. The langoustine dish is five stars. Ask for the dessert volcano. Ask to be sitting in the windows for the port.

Pakkhús is a well-appraised restaurant overlooking the harbour in Höfn in Hornafjörður. The restaurant is inside an old warehouse that was built in 1932, which makes the atmosphere incredibly homey and comfortable. The stamps on the walls are original and mark the start of the Pakkhús history. The restaurant has two levels, with the restaurant on the second floor and a lovely renovated waiting area and bar on the first floor.

Pakkhús emphasises on seafood and especially langoustines, as Höfn is often referred to as the capital of langoustines in Iceland. They strive to use only fresh and local ingredients from land and sea, which they source from the area around Vatnajökull Region. Their langoustine comes straight from the boats, most are caught by Sigurður Ólafsson SF44, the red ship often seen from the restaurant and the boats of Skinney Þinganes. They have a day menu from 12-17 which consists of lighter meals, soups and cakes. After 17:00 their evening menu is available and more suitable for a hearty dinner.  Aside from the langoustines, the menus consist of fish soup, lamb, salted cod, duck and pork and langoustine pizza, to name a few. Please note that they don’t take reservations but work on a first comes, first served basis. They do have a delightful waiting area if the restaurant is full when you arrive.

The restaurant has become renowned for its delicious meals, creative presentations and excellent, attentive service. It is rated as the number one restaurant on TripAdvisor and has excellent reviews, so if you only have time for one meal in Höfn – make sure it’s at Pakkhús.
