The historical trading point of Krosshöfði, by Stapavík inlet, truly lies in a beautiful setting. In early 20th century, this was an important trading point for the broad valley of Fljótdals-hérað. Goods were brought ashore in the inlet until the late 1940’s when a road was built over the mountain range to Borgarfjordur Eystri village which offers excellent harbor facilities. There is a popular trail to the inlet that begins above the farmstead of Unaós, leading to the river Selfljót, continuing along its banks to the mouth of Krosshöfði and to the cliffs of Stapavík.
