Stórurð is truly the hiker’s paradise and one of East Iceland’s most distinctive spots. It’s a magnificent place scattered with huge tuff boulders, charming meadows and attractive glacial ponds. Located east of the road leading to Borgarfjörður Eystri, it lies below the small glacier west of Dyrfjöll mountains. It is an extremely popular hiking area and there is a number of access trails marked from the road and can be reached in 2,5 hours on foot from Vatnsskarð pass.
